What is Counselling?

Counselling is a collaborative and supportive process in which a trained professional helps individuals, couples or groups explore and address personal challenges, emotional difficulties and life concerns. It provides a safe, confidential space for people to express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgement, offering an opportunity for deeper understanding, healing and growth.

The goals of counselling vary depending on the individual's needs but may include:

  • Gaining clarity about specific issues or decisions
  • Developing coping strategies for stress, anxiety, depression, or trauma
  • Building healthier relationships and improving communication skills
  • Managing life transitions or challenges, such as grief, career changes, or identity exploration
  • Breaking free from negative patterns and fostering personal growth

Counselling draws on evidence based practices and therapeutic techniques tailored to each person's unique situation. It often emphasizes self-awareness, problem-solving and building resilience while addressing underlying emotions and thought patterns that may contribute to struggles.

Ultimately, counselling empowers individuals to gain insight, find balance, and create meaningful changes in their lives, helping them move toward greater emotional well-being and fulfilment.

Meet Melinda

Melinda has a Business degree with a major in Accounting, a Graduate Certificate & Graduate Diploma in Counselling and is currently studying a Masters in Counselling. She tailors the session to what is needed in the moment for the client.  She draws on a wide range of evidence based therapies as well as her own tools and frameworks she teaches.  These include Cognitive and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (CBT & DBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Existential Therapy, Person Centred Therapy (PCT), Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness Based Therapy. 

Melinda became passionate about health and wellness after experiencing a long and difficult journey of cancer with her husband over a 10 year period. After he lost his battle there was a process of having to reset most things. Her relationships, career and whole perspective on life. This journey inspired her to develop an integrated medical facility that's been in operation now for over 15 years.

With a lot of big changes came a lot of growth, which grew into another big passion - a personal development journey in becoming your next best version. This was something she felt she owed to her children. Staying down was not an option, it was off the table.

Melinda brings the lessons of a life as an entrepreneur, counsellor, coach & mentor as she continues to create and expand what's possible, while being a mother of 4.
